GGS!! (sounds like a gang??)

  1. Recap: Jarad Diamond's theory on guns, germs, and steel logically explains why people in the world are so unequal. He stated that people in the ancient middle east had an amazing advantage over other people in the world. They had the advantage if having cereal crops and an assortment of livestock. Since the people who had been living with the livestock for centuries they eventually became immune to the disease that came with the animals. When these people traveled to other parts of the world they infected the native people. The natives would often suffer a massive disease outbreak because they had never spent any time around the animals and so, they never developed an immunity to the diseases.

Revisit: The country I'm going to talk about is chad. It is a land-locked country in central Africa ion the Sahara desert. Fun fact!! It is thought to that Abel was the first inhabitant of Chad!! cool huh?? In the 14th century the French decided to make a colony out of Chad, and according to my findings they did so easy and with little resistance. Chad lacks on many things such as farm land and water so it has pretty mush always been the place that no one really cares about. You cant mine anything; the desert sand prevents it. Even after they conquered it, the French didn't bother building it up. They just enslaved some of the people to farm cotton near Lake Chad. There weren't enough people in Chad at the time to have a large disease outbreak, why would there be? Most of it is just desert. According to this link, although actions are being taken to eradicate poverty in Chad they have been having problems with bandits, kidnappings, and attacks on relief workers. NPR also said that some people believe that the oil revenue that is supposed to be used for poverty relief is being wasted. It is hard to get out out of the poverty cycle once you get into it. Reflect: Wow.. umm.. just saying GGS was really awesome! I think that the idea of "geographic luck" makes since. Not only will people in a certain place develop into a more prosperous society, the people that have less will come up with different, laborsaving, and innovative ways to do things. Although the big societies' might think they are all big and bad, they actually are the ones that are hurting there land the most. Pollution, over harvisting, and deforestation are just a few of the penalties that a society has to pay to become large and devopled. The "less fortunate" people often tend to pay attention and listen to nature, preserving there land for future generations. There settlements tend be built in to the enviroment not on top if it. I think they could actually live happier, more fulfilling lives then the more built up societies.
