Recap: The topic chose to do for my Afghanistan project was etiquette and social traditions. I believe that I found sufficient information that if were to go to Afghanistan I would not offend them by not doing something rude, at least for awhile. If I were to do something like talk to another mans wife directly then who knows? I could shot. If anyone was going to try to do any peace making in Afghanistan they would need to have an understanding of the etiquette and traditions.
Revisit: This is ridiculous, none of the articles I could find deal with my topic of social etiquette in Afghanistan. In all honesty, when you assigned the original assignment of how we would need to establish Afghanistan as a singular, self-governed nation I thought my topic of social etiquette was on of the most important ones. If your going to try to work with people it would be best not to offend them. I mean really, what if someone from another country came up to you, even if they're intentions are good, and did something that gravely offended you you wouldn't listen to what they said. You would be stuck thinking 'man that was rude, who do they think they are!'. And the fact that I couldn't find any articles about something like 'troops being taught social etiquette' or 'leadership learning importance of learning Afghan's social etiquette' tells me that they might not be getting as accustomed to living with the people of Afghanistan; the very people they are trying to help. I also found this link that said the Taliban warned the South Korean government from deploying the 500 troops they where planning to send. I personally find it scary that the Taliban are starting to strike out of the country. I found a NPR article about how the united states is going to build up there anti terror units in Afghanistan. I was surprised to see in the article that they are trying to convert some of the terrorists.
Reflect: I believe that the people of Afghanistan truly want to become a unified nation, but I think that each of the tribes want to have their ideals and customs become the official ones of the country. The common nationalism all these tribes share is also the thing keeping them apart. Poverty also plagues the country. The time spent being sick or treating the sick could eventuality be used to eventually settle there differences. The people who would come in and help the people of Afghanistan would need to not only use there skills to help them, they would have to make the Afghans comfortable around them. These could be accomplished by having the people coming in to help the Afghans learn the manners of Afghanistan so they more easily blend in with the culture there.
