First off, that film was really good. Thank you for letting us watch it.
The people climbing were obviously motivated to do it. Climbing Mount Everest is no easy feat. The woman that climbed the movie in the film was the first Hispanic woman to climb Everest, if I remember correctly. One man made it to the top without oxygen (BEAST) because he received encouragement from his wife back at base camp. I believe that is what would best motivate me, having a loved one cheer me on. But Norgay was motivated in a different way, he and other westerners were motivated by gaining the title of the first to be on top of the world. Even though one of the locals probably climbed it before them.
